Coahuiltecan multi disciplinary artist and DJ. Flores Negras highlights the complexity of her mestiza identity through sound.
Inspired by cult film scores, native drum rhythms, Chicago house music, tejanoism, early 2000 raves, strip clubs, & heavy metal. These influences are pieces of her life journey.
Starting her music journey in shoegaze, dark doom metal bands, Flores started experimenting with clashing sounds and genres. She has a background as a multi instrumentalist, vocalist, and songwriter. In 2019, she began to create dance parties like Cumbia vs New wave, which evolved to Cumbia y Los Goths, Necropolis, & Necro Disko. With Cumbia y Los Goths, she mashes together genres like hard techno, cumbia, juke, industrial, hip hop, synth, or reggaeton. Necropolis & Necro Disko focuses on techno, Italo, Industrial, dark wave, and electronic sounds.
“I have always appreciated how the use of sound can create a mood or environment in films. I am telling stories through the music I choose, creating moods or sparking nostalgia. I aim to feel like I’m in a weird indie film. Whether with the music, the design of the flyer, or how I decorate the party. Djing has been an outlet to express every piece of myself with these stories of sound.”
