La Belén is a Venezuelan born, Chicagoland and South Texas raised creative. Music and dance are the connective tissue of her upbringing. At a young age, her father introduced her to folk and alternative music in Spanish, and fondly remembers family gatherings where she danced to salsa, merengue, gaitas, and reggaetón. La Belén bonded with the mothers of grade school friends over Lauryn Hill and Erykha Badu, and cruised into Chicago juke and footwork at middle school parties. In her later teen years, La Belén entered the Chicago punk scene where she would eventually be part of one of her first music projects, Blystex.
In 2019, La Belén formed Conjunto Primitivo with best friend Cesar Robles, based in Chicago’s South Side. Their debut album, Morir y Renacer, dropped in 2022 under local label Chicago Research and was named Album of the Day by Bandcamp upon its release.
The myriad of influences and all things body music are what you’ll find in her new Beloved program. Sound is the keystone that holds everything in La Belén’s heart; she hopes you enjoy.
